Here’s an excerpt from Leigh Court’s Fear of Flying.
Regan insisted on walking Jessie to her hotel room door. When they arrived, she pulled her key card out of her pocket and turned to him. “Thank you for dinner. And don’t forget, our first interview tomorrow is—”
She never finished the sentence. Regan’s lips came down to meet hers in a crushing kiss that stole the words from her mouth and shocked Jessie to her toes.
Her eyebrows reached her hairline. What the hell was he doing?
Regan’s lips eased back slightly and the pressure of his mouth suddenly changed. His lips became soft but hotly insistent, working on her mouth in the most interesting way. Pressing, releasing, sliding, coaxing. Jessie’s brain frantically tried to catch up with what was going on.
Dear God, Regan Quade is kissing me!
Obviously taking her stunned paralysis as acceptance, his tongue urged her lips to open for him. And damn it, Jessie’s did. Their tongues met, tangled, twined. Her mouth was on fire from the heat of his velvety stroking. A low moan escaped from Regan’s throat and he pressed her back against the hotel room door, easing his thigh between her legs.
Jessie inhaled sharply, but her body seemed to know exactly how it wanted to respond. Her nipples hardened. The pressure of Regan’s muscular thigh against her groin made her legs go weak and her body crave his in the most elemental way.
He broke away from her lips to trail a path of rough kisses down the side of her throat. “You smell delicious. What are you wearing?”
Jessie couldn’t think straight, not with his hot lips searing her skin like this. “Um… oatmeal and almond soap?”
The low, sexy rumble of his laughter against her sensitive neck make Jessie’s nipples ache for his touch.
“Mmm. Good enough to eat. Open the door, Jessie.”
What? Dear God. If Jessie opened her hotel room door, she knew how this would end.
Her brain finally kicked into gear. Where was Regan’s sudden sexual interest coming from, anyway? He’d given no hint of being physically attracted to her before this. Heck, on the flight from New York she’d been convinced he hated her for her stupid fear of flying.
But this was far from hate. This move of Regan’s was coming from a place Jessie didn’t quite understand. But she had their professional relationship to consider. He was a travel writer, and she was his book publicist. Did she dare cross the line and make things personal between them? What about Regan’s girlfriend, Dee Dee Lumiere?
What to do? What to do?
Regan’s hands reached around to grasp Jessie’s ass, urging her groin to slide up and down against his hard thigh, causing Jessie to gasp out loud. The sexual stimulation was almost more than she could take. Instinctively, she bucked her hips against him for more contact.
Regan’s ragged breaths sounded like they were being ripped from his throat, and were scorching the sensitive hollow of Jessie’s collarbone. “I’m going to take you right here in the hallway unless you open your door, Jessie.”
Sex with Regan Quade. It’s what Jessie had been fantasizing about just three days ago. Here was her chance to find out if the reality would be as good.
His clever tongue was working its way back up the side of her neck. His hard thigh was rocking between her legs, driving her insane.
Oh, yes, this would definitely be as good. Hell, it was already better.
She heard the plea in his tone, and she almost gave in. Almost. But there were too many reasons against it.
Regan stopped instantly. Jessie held her breath.
“No, Regan. I can’t. Listen… we can’t.”
Regan still didn’t move. His lips were hovering along the side of her neck, his thigh still pressed between her legs. It was a moment suspended in time, when Jessie honestly didn’t know what was going to happen.
Then, without a word or so much as a glance at her, Regan broke away, turned his back and began to stride down the hallway.
“Tomorrow morning’s television show airs at six,” she called after him. “We’ll meet in the lobby at 5:15.”
All she heard in response was his frustrated growl as he walked away.
